A Little About Our Small Business

Kaleo Fine Furniture is based outside of Austin Texas on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. It is owned and operated by craftsman and furniture maker Kanon Hile. Much of the furniture we make comes from walnut, cherry and cedar that was milled in the early 1900’s in south-eastern Arkansas.

We had the blessing of sourcing 1,000s of board feet of this rough sawn lumber from a family friend who’s father ran a lumber mill. In the early 1920’s he set aside some lumber, promising his wife, he’d use it to make furniture for their family. Time got away from him and he ended up passing it down to his son who promised his wife that he’d use it to make her furniture. As life happens, he ended up not using most of it, and just before he passed away at 93, we purchased all the wood that remained. Of course, I promised my wife I would use it to save money by making her furniture.

At Kaleo, we recognize, honor and accept the responsibility of making furniture from trees that may have been 100’s of year’s old before being harvested and have been waiting for almost 100 years to be transformed into fine furniture.

The journey of learning how to make quality pieces that are made to be enjoyed while lasting for generations has led me into building this small family furniture business.
